It was a simple finish of sewing down the one side, matching the pattern of course, and then adding a fancy trim to the ends. This fabric drapes so easily, is a good, heavy weight so won't go flying around when wearing and will match my coat!! <br />

I'm not overly thrilled with the color of the called for linen. As you can see from the photo it is a little dark and the cross stitch isn't popping like I would prefer. I may complete as is - or start over on a light piece of linen. Love the design though!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If I frame it I'll want a primitive looking frame, but am also thinking of a three dimensional box or flat fold that I could add black beads around the outside. For now - this will go in my "to be finished" box.<br />

This biscourno was made from a design by Plum Pudding Needleart named "4 Bats and A Cat". It is a perfect square which is needed for a biscourno type finish. I 4 cat head shaped buttons for a three dimensional look, and there is one on the back for the middle tie in. I added halloween style cording and a halloween Moda fabric for the back. You can purchase this pattern on <a href="http://www.plumpuddingneedleart.com/">www.plumpuddingneedleart.com</a> It was great fun to stitch and this is my first biscourno finish. Now I just have to find a perfect square for a thanksgiving design since I want to do this type of finish again!!<br />

This pillow is larger than my dog Emma! It was made by upholstery samples and finished on the back with a suede like cloth. The two sides have coordinating trim with tassels. This pillow will need to be kept away from Emma since she will pull all of the tassels off!<br />

Lisa Roswell was the owner and designer for The Primitive Needle and her blog was one of the first that I started following a few years ago. My October 2010 finish was Salem Witch and that was a chart I purchased directly from Lisa and The Primitive Needle. I am amazed and gratified that cross stitch has once again regained popularity and needlework designers have a voice and presence. The online community is directly responsible for this resurgence and designers like Lisa Roswell contributed greatly to its success. <br /><br />The link to the story is below, but I must warn you, this is a heartbreaking accident that could happen to any of us. It is especially heartbreaking since Lisa was a such a wonderful and talented person. She was a dedicated cancer care nurse, a mother and designer and will be sorely missed.<br /><br /> <a href="http://www.sanduskyregister.com/norwalk/news/2011/feb/28/woman-trapped-car">http://www.sanduskyregister.com/norwalk/news/2011/feb/28/woman-trapped-car</a>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-81301345317638671162011-02-28T18:05:00.000-08:002011-02-28T18:10:28.464-08:00February 2011 Finish<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtWPHchXAzHhGlyP5Wm5RxKbtvQzVffIF2MCn6VyE0eGdL3mSefimOTGvYHGlry8KHfLX0BtRjx5ONhqAK6lbczCd1o5O1ULDNQDH-K0e2XbW9oVFICX8B0uAHwJeHK5PMnDPwrOHWwf6i/s1600/000_0089.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578928063282996402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 213px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtWPHchXAzHhGlyP5Wm5RxKbtvQzVffIF2MCn6VyE0eGdL3mSefimOTGvYHGlry8KHfLX0BtRjx5ONhqAK6lbczCd1o5O1ULDNQDH-K0e2XbW9oVFICX8B0uAHwJeHK5PMnDPwrOHWwf6i/s320/000_0089.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtYXmtbzJhAuXqk26lBrLLjEzHRkPYXwXu23WjDyIJutpD9vmmYASl0P3mAurLEK5rK3O0Um6IVyV4MQb0jUmRKWFxhyphenhyphenz4dmw8uufiOyHve71Z3LGiMrm_jslHnbzqnkpx9rDJxhY5GMK_/s1600/000_0085.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578928053929627890" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtYXmtbzJhAuXqk26lBrLLjEzHRkPYXwXu23WjDyIJutpD9vmmYASl0P3mAurLEK5rK3O0Um6IVyV4MQb0jUmRKWFxhyphenhyphenz4dmw8uufiOyHve71Z3LGiMrm_jslHnbzqnkpx9rDJxhY5GMK_/s320/000_0085.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div>This dual finish includes an "old" project and a "new" one. I used DMC variagated floss and stitched on 28 count linen. </div></div>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-7412584195353601092011-01-31T18:38:00.000-08:002011-01-31T18:44:46.518-08:00January 2011 Finish<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlypTY3mIV3_Tl9HqkbXWuUDJq6ifxqtdnNTqPSkmoGq4XtT8ZqxIxURg2I-Yt6MtUyGdrHqNviPiWbzzpa4PvCzIeZFCT2WGJPKIHvC_wnnxi1960B3n0o7Ruxo7RcxTVuOfT3vOmxa66/s1600/100_3215.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568546438455758082" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 213px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlypTY3mIV3_Tl9HqkbXWuUDJq6ifxqtdnNTqPSkmoGq4XtT8ZqxIxURg2I-Yt6MtUyGdrHqNviPiWbzzpa4PvCzIeZFCT2WGJPKIHvC_wnnxi1960B3n0o7Ruxo7RcxTVuOfT3vOmxa66/s320/100_3215.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8DcQsoEBBZhP3fhf4hDYXt4ZJ8iuZslNKw9iyuCJhRRAssInG-9GJiQuGJXSuAbfGkyqUvdjmE9B9sE3J7Jjs4EfAjx8QZ0n6aADTkNHSUg3KIoaqk-67PdMR7ATv9bxkSEQVzQdYGMRU/s1600/100_3214.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568546435183620882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 213px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8DcQsoEBBZhP3fhf4hDYXt4ZJ8iuZslNKw9iyuCJhRRAssInG-9GJiQuGJXSuAbfGkyqUvdjmE9B9sE3J7Jjs4EfAjx8QZ0n6aADTkNHSUg3KIoaqk-67PdMR7ATv9bxkSEQVzQdYGMRU/s320/100_3214.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div>This valentine's pinkeep was stitched with DMC floss on 28 count linen. The chart has three segments and I chose to do just two since I could only find a dual, not a triple frame. I took Aida 11 and dyed one piece lime green and the other tangerine. The rit dye website has an easy method for dying fabric with a quick set in the microwave! No more rinsing in water with salt - the high temps in the microwave set the color in under 2 minutes.<br /><br />The cross stitch was a quick finish and the framing couldn't have been easier. The pillow is made with Laura Ashley fabrics and is pieced front and back. The small Americana quilt was foundation paper pieced - my first attempt. The flag was redone several times until I finally figured out that I needed to shorten the stitch length to "hold" the pieces together. Once that trick was learned I was able to fly through the rest of it. It is machine quilted in the ditch and is finished in the primitive style to look hand made. </div>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-9138342145557350292010-06-30T19:47:00.003-07:002010-06-30T19:50:48.398-07:00June Finish<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO7wxRO9KSPR9whCCE2dHY2s5bSe13tOF_BObfRrwCGoqgiLiHzrmnPL76UwhLSdN9l-aXmUYA8l9SpOgWxa-Um2CPlFW5Aup5NmzZszDWOobJBXf3PbeYvk9dzezlcQQcDDwMe_J2kn8K/s1600/000_0068.JPG"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488764714436248770" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO7wxRO9KSPR9whCCE2dHY2s5bSe13tOF_BObfRrwCGoqgiLiHzrmnPL76UwhLSdN9l-aXmUYA8l9SpOgWxa-Um2CPlFW5Aup5NmzZszDWOobJBXf3PbeYvk9dzezlcQQcDDwMe_J2kn8K/s320/000_0068.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaPfu16k2xKDIP0yeKTVnqmre5SPBwh798PFpg6OEq252ZVTethMVAFULoDyjH8GmJYN0ta74PS3GOxN96MfKOBjY5uUhYfDZTMSyOZtOQLQRiyG3gBRO9bckUu7pirXF0sFhciNGxyCJ9/s1600/000_0069.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 213px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488764412162393794" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaPfu16k2xKDIP0yeKTVnqmre5SPBwh798PFpg6OEq252ZVTethMVAFULoDyjH8GmJYN0ta74PS3GOxN96MfKOBjY5uUhYfDZTMSyOZtOQLQRiyG3gBRO9bckUu7pirXF0sFhciNGxyCJ9/s320/000_0069.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Kwd2ttiMYOT4EO-P9lq2q7d_5w_i6397Jouyn9bp9J-PP2WAZGULGoaqL_2QDRw-TWaVzIrexOba7Ti-NSEZx-kCZ54umI0Zxcx1Q_GtbuuXOlvdx8GK77jrZHTnl7h5vDFKxIcPZsjW/s1600/000_0070.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 213px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488764210524967426" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Kwd2ttiMYOT4EO-P9lq2q7d_5w_i6397Jouyn9bp9J-PP2WAZGULGoaqL_2QDRw-TWaVzIrexOba7Ti-NSEZx-kCZ54umI0Zxcx1Q_GtbuuXOlvdx8GK77jrZHTnl7h5vDFKxIcPZsjW/s320/000_0070.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div>This is a small quilt perfect for a tabletop. I had painted the ceramic bunnies years ago and have one more companion piece to finish at some point in the "hopefully" near future. The glass vase sits on my latest and most simple finish. I purchased the upholstery sample at Alfred's Fabrics for $2. They have a large selection of similar items - from Toile to heavy upholstery samples - all $2 and under. I added gold gimp and the table display was done - couldn't have been easier.<br /><br />The two cross stitch easter eggs are waiting for a white wire tree to sit on - problem is - no one has those this year! Oh well - maybe I'll find one before next year somewhere. The patterns for the eggs can be found in a supplement to Cross Stitch magazine from 1990. How scary is that? I still have that magazine but am obviously still using it!! I have one more egg in the works and will finish before Easter next week.<br /><br />The photo of the foam box finish is from a kit for a Diane Graebner design "Pumpkins and Bittersweets Baskets". You can find her work at <a href="http://thestitchery.com/">http://thestitchery.com/</a> . The piece has tiny orange beeds to add flower dimensions and is stitched on 18 count white aida. </div></div></div>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-82251167673201031292010-02-14T10:16:00.000-08:002010-02-14T10:24:52.695-08:00February Finish for OPAM 2010<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-D3eHU35tgpoDazw0FFsioumQBYC3BqsQ8yKfWIl2E_kL2ge9cfjnWqhbqDB4qNhehLIf1FXCBIynH0NNZMW41gVGBqvqoKyD1rzVLzx_m2vTicvCVQrUCqRopTT-sG5zPXAhz99oT7rV/s1600-h/100_2619.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438166646526792834" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-D3eHU35tgpoDazw0FFsioumQBYC3BqsQ8yKfWIl2E_kL2ge9cfjnWqhbqDB4qNhehLIf1FXCBIynH0NNZMW41gVGBqvqoKyD1rzVLzx_m2vTicvCVQrUCqRopTT-sG5zPXAhz99oT7rV/s320/100_2619.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWQSQxPOMMhbI-olQ2TWQ8iFxtMVhH5bpzEdEuykRKexYvpW4lMPGFDAtbv7fM54-qEQMIoa3nVA0gVYpfA6kJX0c8aEKr2yNlsahi6A8Nmf1w7Rf0-B3DCP7Cslgnwi8xRU5kg8dn0i2V/s1600-h/100_2616.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438166177346821666" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWQSQxPOMMhbI-olQ2TWQ8iFxtMVhH5bpzEdEuykRKexYvpW4lMPGFDAtbv7fM54-qEQMIoa3nVA0gVYpfA6kJX0c8aEKr2yNlsahi6A8Nmf1w7Rf0-B3DCP7Cslgnwi8xRU5kg8dn0i2V/s320/100_2616.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwfdj5fx5zeDlMgVao23e6XG06c3GNFmpTv4zdvpBzzfcZyjxo2y5lRdW3mokq0kjgpFc1clX2hAlEzBszfw7X1AT8wp67JI75OYtLFwvxa5AJWz_rO4lQVhJnoonUrKkLr1yveveb14eY/s1600-h/100_2617.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438165989375371650" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwfdj5fx5zeDlMgVao23e6XG06c3GNFmpTv4zdvpBzzfcZyjxo2y5lRdW3mokq0kjgpFc1clX2hAlEzBszfw7X1AT8wp67JI75OYtLFwvxa5AJWz_rO4lQVhJnoonUrKkLr1yveveb14eY/s320/100_2617.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div>This Valentine's Day quilted wallhanging started as a panel that I cut apart and pieced with heart fabric. Of course the heart fabric has a direction which forced me to place insets between the squares. I ended with heart buttons to add interest. This panel is available at Alfred's Fabric for $2.50 - a bargain!!! If anyone wants one let me know. The panel actually has 10 inserts so there is an extra one for a pillow or bag. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The top photo is my Valentine's Day table display - an ice tree, my silver deer which will live on my table year round, and a ceramic heart box I made in ceramics years ago. Happy Valentine's Day!!</div></div></div>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-38373930930779995262010-01-31T08:28:00.000-08:002010-01-31T08:35:51.167-08:00Finally a Finish for OPAM!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6_b9jPTi8JqlCA50wHwXLCnF-8vA3EdB5HR5u4PFNxOrzYnGx6PfOpbGPlAGQpLeKemayND6v1_Ao1B0S6sd94aZ0F5a2rth2Tw1LZQGBnFw2xFQboKYMhJZnqifU_Lh3dHCEN2ZtlFVd/s1600-h/100_2613.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 213px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432943068147804178" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6_b9jPTi8JqlCA50wHwXLCnF-8vA3EdB5HR5u4PFNxOrzYnGx6PfOpbGPlAGQpLeKemayND6v1_Ao1B0S6sd94aZ0F5a2rth2Tw1LZQGBnFw2xFQboKYMhJZnqifU_Lh3dHCEN2ZtlFVd/s320/100_2613.JPG" /></a><br /><div>This finish is just under the wire for my "one project a month" for 2010. I have loads of WIPs but finishes are slow in coming. I started a Valentine's Day quilt a year ago but decided to hand quilt it instead of machine quilting. The hand quilting is wonderful, just a slow process. The quilt will be my next finish!!<br /><br />This freebie can be found on Primitive Betty's blog. It<br />was a pleasure to stitch. I finished as a pin keep and used red rick rack around the rim. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The two ceramic pieces in the background are from my ceramic painting days! They are a great decoration for February!</div>Laura Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280056028669781795noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5366517274579272926.post-57725191552305926292009-12-31T12:33:00.000-08:002009-12-31T12:38:23.765-08:00Finishing Freebie from Blackbird Designs<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHU4SDo34580pQqY4uhHJlqR-JcAUQh4IKL5S2IxTFjMAtRIF28foraMm3iSMiMH7SXzKQAc2qvzELtGosJfY8p4qxtDJc8TZFLnqVo1FfPYuWYZQu3OcZbxQqS7dPzoXjXqozPyVFC0Ox/s1600-h/100_2603.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 213px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421502307426117266" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHU4SDo34580pQqY4uhHJlqR-JcAUQh4IKL5S2IxTFjMAtRIF28foraMm3iSMiMH7SXzKQAc2qvzELtGosJfY8p4qxtDJc8TZFLnqVo1FfPYuWYZQu3OcZbxQqS7dPzoXjXqozPyVFC0Ox/s320/100_2603.JPG" /></a><br /><div>I finished the cross stitch a few weeks ago but finally completed the finishing today. I added a trim with beads to the bottom and black silk cording around the whole pinkeep. The back has a black upholstery sample with green and pink dots.
